Welcome!

This is my digital dinner party! Come on in for a drink, a bite to eat, and some conversation!

Staycation

Staycation

One of the best things I learned when I was living in Hawaii - I know this isn’t even a humble brag… its a brag. It was an amazing time and I will add more stories about that later! But anyway, the point is that when I was there we used to treat ourselves to now and then to a little staycation!

Staycations are the best, and you don’t need to be on a tropical island to enjoy one. Even if you have the worlds most amazing condo, treating your self to a great night a hotel is real getaway. There aren’t dishes in the kitchen, there isn’t laundry you could be doing, you are just forced to take a beat and relax.

Yesterday’s staycation at the Kimpton St George was an impromptu one. My Mom flew into town late on Thursday night and decided that rather than stay with me she would get a room for Thursday and Friday before we headed out to her home in Niagara for the weekend.

In the morning, on a whim, I was scrolling through Hotel Tonight (the best app in the world - if you don’t have it go and get it on your phone - I promise you won’t be sorry) and saw that I could get a deal on a night at the Kimpton for myself. Sold.

Honestly, it didn’t take a lot of convincing. So after work Fitz and I headed straight to the hotel from the office.

There are so many things I love about the Kimpton brand, but the way that they embrace my dog is probably my favourite (I know they do this for all pets, but I like to pretend he’s special!). We checked in and were handed the most adorable treat bag, complete with the Pet In Room door hanger.

We dropped our stuff, connected with my Mom who was staying a few doors down and headed to wine hour.

Yes, you heard me correctly, wine hour. If you haven’t stayed at a Kimpton before they serve wine, and sometimes snacks, to all their guests between 5pm and 6pm every night.

It is up there on the list of reasons I love a Kimpton.

Wine hour is also one of Fitz’s favourite times. He is allowed to come to the lobby, or where ever it is held. I’m fairly confident he’s convinced that it’s a small cocktail party that the hotel throws for him in order to meet all the other guests both Human and four legged.

So after an hour of socializing and catching up with my Mom we headed out to meet my friend for dinner before heading to the theatre.

After the show I came back and made a little stop off at the bar connected to the hotel The Fortunate Fox for a night cap.

A delicious Bourbon Sour that I took back to my room to enjoy in bed.

I wasn’t as luck this time, but last time I stayed at the St George I was given a fantastic upgrade to a suite that included the most incredible bathtub I’ve ever seen in my life.

This bathtub is part of my life goals. It’s inside the shower. This and a Nancy Meyers kitchen basically are my dream home!

Fitz is a giant suck, and loves getting cuddles from Grandma.

Without the tub I still managed to make the most of the rest of my evening, and getting the best sleep ever in the most comfortable bed. I’m not a good sleeper, but I managed to get a full 9 hours - which was restorative in the best possible way.

In the morning after Fitz’s walk we grabbed tea from the complimentary coffee and tea bar in the lobby and went to my Mom’s suite for a little more R&R.

The whole aesthetic of this hotel is so calming and welcoming. We sat sipping our teas and planning our short venture to Niagara, and debating how many wineries we could fit and where we should go for dinner.

Finally we headed to breakfast, capping off a lovely evening with some eggs back at The Fortunate Fox, and checked out.

We checked out and headed on our way, feeling way more relaxed and refreshed than a single night of sleep should make you. That is the miracle of a staycation, you take a little break from your everyday and feel better.
